Goodhue County Elections would like to inform voters of new technology within our county polling places beginning with the August Primary Election, as electronic poll books are replacing the paper rosters used to check in and register voters. Electronic poll books were authorized throughout the state with a 2014 law and have been used in previous elections in Minnesota counties. Poll pads are currently used in over 60 Minnesota counties.
In the past some of our precinct paper rosters were separated by sections of the alphabet, and now voters will be welcomed to any line any time. Each electronic poll book includes an iPad and mini printer, which will print the voter's oath for each voter to sign. The rest of the voting process will remain the same, with voters receiving paper ballots for completion and insertion into ballot counting machines.
With election security the top priority, the iPads will not have Wi-Fi connectivity in any of the polling locations in Goodhue County. They will have blue tooth connectivity between the units within the polling place to keep the electronic rosters synched.
Starting June 10th, Finance and Taxpayer Services will have a Poll Pad Tablet available for demonstrations. Please call 651-385-3040 to make an appointment for a demonstration.
