Goodhue County 2022 Bituminous Paving Contract Update

22 Paving

[Red Wing, MN] – Goodhue County’s Public Works Department is updating the public on the progress of its 2022 Bituminous Paving Contract to Rochester Sand & Gravel. With a total cost of $7,189,519.17, this project will improve the driving conditions of several county roads and increase road lifespans.  Bituminous, better known as asphalt, is used in the transportation community to bond and seal aggregate particles together to produce a durable and smooth surface.  Goodhue County’s projects include bituminous milling & reclamation, ADA sidewalk and pedestrian ramp improvements, bituminous mainline & shoulder paving, aggregate shouldering, railroad crossing improvements, and paint striping.

Due to shortages in available employees in construction fields, truck drivers, sub-contractors, and materials – construction work has been delayed across all sectors. Other projects that the Contractor is working on also experience these same issues which in turn exacerbates delays.

The following locations will be impacted by the paving:

  • CSAH 9:           CSAH 2 to East County Line
  • CSAH 17:         West County Line to TH 20
  • CSAH 20:         Ash Court to TH 19
  • CSAH 22:         TH 20 to CSAH 17
  • CSAH 24:         CSAH 9 to Oxford Mill Bridge
  • CSAH 24:         CSAH 25 to TH 19
  • CSAH 25:         CSAH 20 to CSAH 24
  • CSAH 29:         TH 20 to Dakota County 86
  • CSAH 66:         CSAH 1 to Twin Bluff Road

Additionally, the added schedule should be noted by the public. All of this work is subject to change based on contractor availability, material supply, and available workforce:

  • Paving work on CSAH 66 has already been completed.
  • Milling work in Cannon Falls will begin the 2nd week of August.
  • Paving on CSAH 24: (CSAH 9 to Oxford Mill Bridge) to begin late this week (Aug. 5th).
  • Paving work in Cannon Falls to begin after CSAH 24.
  • Paving work in and around Cannon Falls to last into September.
  • CSAH 9 work is expected to start sometime in mid to late September and last until mid to late October.
